Associate Principal, Haily Rambo, of China Spring High School has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School principals as a Region 12 Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the twenty region Education Service Centers in the state.
Rambo started her career as a high school English, special education, and ESL teacher in Houston, Texas. After moving to Waco, Texas, and serving as an instructional coach and dean of instruction at another school district, Rambo recognized her passions had changed. “I did not really imagine being an administrator until I taught, and then I realized that my passions had transitioned to problem solving for the school community and school accountability systems,” says Rambo. She earned a master’s degree in school administration from Lamar University, obtained a principal certification and accepted a job as assistant principal for China Spring High School.
This year marks four years of service with China Spring High School. Rambo shares her favorite thing about serving as associate principal at China Spring High School, “Every day, we get to see and interact with the future of our society, and the future is bright. Our students and staff are caring, inclusive and extremely driven. The days are never boring, never the same, and never anything you would expect!”
School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. “It’s a huge and very unexpected honor,” states Rambo, “I am thankful that TASSP recognizes the work of assistant and associate administrators. I hope that encourages the community to appreciate the expertise, training and professionalism that is required to be a school administrator, teacher, paraprofessional or any other school employee in Texas.”
As a Region 12 winner, Rambo is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Assistant Principal of the Year. Rambo completes a comprehensive essay process, participates in regional and state meetings and interviews. The state competition focuses on the candidate’s ability to positively impact student and staff culture, climate and student achievement. Rambo is honored to participate and shares, “Regardless of the outcome, I am excited to expand my professional network and learn from other assistant and associate principals who will be participating in the selection process.”
Each of the region winners will be recognized during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer held each year in June in Austin. Each will be presented with an award and recognized in a commemorative book entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
