In September, Texas Legislature passed a law requiring school districts to implement enhanced safety and security practices. To support the requirements of this law, school districts received funding from the state of Texas; however, many districts find this funding is not enough to cover the required updates. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Kevin Pitts, with the assistance of the China Spring ISD Police Department, applied for safety and security grant through the Texas Legislature, requesting additional funds to cover the cost of security updates at the district. China Spring ISD was awarded a $1.3 million dollar grant to assist with continued safety of students and staff.
A representative from the Bosque County Appraisal District attended the meeting, requesting approval from the China Spring School Board in the Appraisal District’s purchasing of an office building. The building they are currently leasing is being sold. They have been given a very good deal on the building to purchase and must get ¾ of the taxing entities approval before a loan is approved. The increase to China Spring ISD’s fees is about $1,100 a year. The board approved the building acquisition 7-0.
