The following message from Superintendent, Dr. Marc Faulkner, was released to all district parent/guardians on February 5, 2024:
All China Spring ISD Families,
On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse is set to occur, and we believe it presents an excellent chance for our students to witness and learn from this rare event. To maximize the educational experience, all China Spring ISD campuses will remain open on April 8, and all students will have the opportunity to witness the solar eclipse.
China Spring ISD educators are preparing lessons and activities related to the solar eclipse. Students will have the opportunity to not only witness the solar eclipse but also gain understanding into the science and significance of the event.
We understand that safety is of the utmost importance and we have taken necessary precautions to make this event safe for all students. The district will provide protective eyewear for everyone, and teachers will supervise the students during the eclipse viewing.
In conversations with district administration at neighboring schools, we recognize an additional safety concern is the potential for an increase in traffic on the roadways. Due to the district’s distance from I-35, we do not anticipate a significant increase in traffic in the China Spring area.
If, for any reason, you do not wish for your child to participate in the solar eclipse viewing activities, please inform the school in advance, and appropriate alternative arrangements will be made.
We believe that witnessing rare events like solar eclipses can be a powerful educational experience, sparking curiosity and interest in the sciences. We hope your child will enjoy and benefit from this unique opportunity.
Best,
Marc Faulkner, Ed.D.
