China Spring ISD Board of Trustees: March Meeting Summary

The China Spring ISD (CSISD) School Board met on Monday, March 18, 2024 at 6:00 pm. The School Board highlighted March Faculty and Staff Award winners, approved important projects to enhance the student experience at the district, and interacted with students from the intermediate school.

Each month, faculty and staff are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the students at CSISD. These educators are nominated by their campus principals and confirmed by the administration team. Educators are recognized at the School Board meeting and presented with a plaque. Read about our March Faculty and Staff Award winners here.

Students from China Spring Intermediate had an opportunity to showcase projects happening at their campus. From Virtual Reality headsets, to robotics, members of the School Board experienced many creative educational tools used by China Spring Intermediate teachers to support learning for 5th and 6th grade students.

China Spring ISD is offering a variety of events throughout the spring semester focusing on staff health and wellness. At CSISD, we care about the wellbeing of our educators and we are committed to offering opportunities to support their physical and emotional wellbeing. Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Leslie Smith, shared information about an upcoming event for educators focusing on self-care. The district is partnering with local Waco organization, YouTopia Essentials, to offer educators the opportunity to create self-care kits and learn skills for practicing self-care throughout the year.

The district is not holding a School Board election as the incumbents are running unopposed. School Board members, Jeff Bradburn and Trey Oakley will continue to serve in their current positions on the China Spring ISD School Board.

The district recently received a $1.3 million school safety grant to enhance security measures and meet the requirements from Texas House Bill 3. Using grant money, CSISD has updated fencing at each campus to meet House Bill 3 requirements. Fences are at least six feet high with light blue slats, preventing the fence from being easily scalable. The district has also installed a clear, safety film on glass doors and windows, reinforcing the glass and making it difficult to break. During the meeting, the School Board approved several projects to enhance facilities and the student experience at CSISD. This summer, the district is updating the lighting system in the Performing Arts Center. Originally installed in 2004, the current lighting system offers limited functionality and several lighting sections no longer work. The updated system offers enhanced lighting controls and will support a better experience for our theatre and band students, as well as community members who attend theatre and music performances. Finally, the district is upgrading the core switch infrastructure. The upgrade is essential to continue supporting the increasing demand of internet usage by students and staff.
