China Spring ISD has proudly announced the creation of their first-ever Special Olympics team. This new team offers an inclusive opportunity for students with special needs to participate in competitive sports and showcase their abilities.
"We are thrilled to launch our Special Olympics team and to provide our students with a platform to showcase their abilities and talents," expressed Dr. Nickolas Smith, executive director of special programs at China Spring ISD. "At China Spring ISD, we are intentional about making education accessible to all students, and this opportunity aligns perfectly with our commitment to inclusivity and diversity."
For the inaugural season, the China Spring ISD Special Olympics team is participating in a regional track and field competition on April 13. With practices starting March 12, these student-athletes are already preparing for the track and field event.
"For many of our students, being part of the Special Olympics team is more than just about competing in sports—it's about building confidence, forming friendships, and realizing their full potential," remarked Bradley Settles, Coach of the China Spring ISD Special Olympics team. "We are excited to embark on this journey with our students and to witness the positive impact that participation in sports can have on their lives."
China Spring ISD expects the Special Olympics program to continue to grow as more student-athletes join the team, providing students the opportunity to compete in a variety of athletic competitions from track and field to basketball and more.
