China Spring ISD: 2024 Solar Eclipse

The following message from Superintendent, Dr. Marc Faulkner, was released to all district parent/guardians on April 7, 2024:

All China Spring ISD Families,

Tomorrow, April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse is set to occur, and we believe it presents an excellent chance for our students to witness and learn from this rare event. All China Spring ISD campuses will remain open tomorrow, April 8, and all students will have the opportunity to witness the solar eclipse.

Throughout the weekend, District administration has been monitoring traffic in the China Spring area. Based on the traffic in our area, administration does not expect significant disruption to bus transportation and parent/guardian access to the school tomorrow.

China Spring ISD educators have lessons and activities related to the solar eclipse prepared for students. Students will have the opportunity to not only witness the solar eclipse but also gain understanding into the science and significance of the event.

We understand that safety is of the utmost importance and we have taken necessary precautions to make this event safe for all students and staff. District administration consulted with neighboring schools, safety officials with the city of Waco, and China Spring ISD police, to create safety plans for each campus across the district. Additionally, the district will provide protective eyewear for everyone, and teachers are closely supervising the students during the eclipse viewing.

Finally, in the interest of ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff, no visitors will be allowed at any China Spring ISD campus tomorrow, April 8. If parents/guardians need to check out a student, please do so before 1:00 pm CST on April 8. After 1:00 pm, students will be moving to their viewing locations for the solar eclipse.

We believe that witnessing rare events like solar eclipses can be a powerful educational experience. We look forward to witnessing this unique event alongside our students tomorrow.

Best,

Marc Faulkner, Ed.D.
