The China Spring ISD (CSISD) School Board met on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 6:00 pm.
During the July School Board meeting, campus administrators shared updates about how they are preparing their campuses to welcome students on the first day of school. All schools are actively enrolling students for the upcoming year and showing positive enrollment growth across the district.
Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Kristen Dutschmann, provided an update about trainings hosted throughout the summer to support our educators as they continue to hone their teaching practices. The state of Texas recently published new Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) guidelines for science. Dutschmann and her team of instructional coaches are working with science teachers across the district to familiarize and align the new China Spring ISD science curriculum with the new science TEKS.
Executive Director of Special Programs, Dr. Nickolas Smith, announced a change to instructional curriculum for Functional Academic classes. News2You (N2Y) is an interactive curriculum, providing functional academic teachers the opportunity to access material where they are. Dr. Smith piloted this curriculum during the 2023-24 academic year and will be implementing N2Y across the district for all Functional Academics in the upcoming academic year.
The School Board unanimously approved the installation of new curtains for the China Spring ISD Performing Arts Center, the 2024-25 Student Code of Conduct, campus handbooks, and District Improvement Plan.
Last year, the state of Texas passed House Bill 3. A bill focusing on school safety standards and outlining required security measures for all Texas public school districts. During the implementation of the enhanced security resources, Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Pitts, applied for a safety grant with the Texas Education Agency (TEA). TEA announced China Spring ISD the recipient of a $1.3 million safety grant. The grant afforded China Spring ISD the opportunity to install new doors, updated fencing, slatting on fencing, and safety film on windows. During the July School Board meeting, the School Board approved the use of additional grant funds to update the key system at three campuses across the District.
