In the state of Texas, each school district works with a school board to make decisions about district operations. School boards are seen as a bridge between school districts and the community they serve. Comprised of elected citizens from the local community, school boards work together with school administrators to make decisions about educational programming based on the needs and expectations of the community.
At China Spring ISD, administrators and board members alike, value community participation and seek to provide opportunity for community members to engage with board meetings. Board meetings offer insight into what is happening in education and, most importantly, what is specifically impacting China Spring ISD. In the spirit of community engagement, China Spring ISD is providing two new resources to China Spring community members. Recordings of the monthly board meetings for the 2024-25 academic year are now available online at www.chinaspringisd.net/page/school-board. After each meeting, a member of the administration team will write a brief summary of key agenda items, providing context for community members to stay informed about what is happening at China Spring ISD. These summaries can be found in the News section of the China Spring ISD website, here.

Students at China Spring High School have the opportunity to enroll in Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways. CTE programs provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning during high school and graduate with industry-based certifications. One CTE program experiencing significant growth is the Engineering-Tango Flight CTE program. During the meeting, CTE teachers, Jeff Bray and Brendan Smith, reported on the work happening in their classes. As students continue building the VAN’s RV-12 aircraft, through program expansion, students also have the opportunity to begin building robots in the robotics engineering program. “I know it is our goal to send our kids home with educational experiences they can’t stop talking about,” shares Smith. “And I feel like that’s what we get to do in our side of the building every day.”
Last year, China Spring ISD started the inaugural Special Olympics team for the district. During the board meeting, Executive Director of Special Programs, Dr. Nick Smith, shared an update about the future of Special Olympics at the district. The team will compete in track and field and bocce ball events.
The district is taking advantage of the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) opportunity available through the Texas Education Agency (TEA). China Spring ISD is utilizing TIA to recognize the exemplary work that is already happening and using it as an opportunity to continue developing instructional skills. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Leslie Smith, shared that the district is working to identify eligible teaching assignments for the second TIA cohort.
