The China Spring ISD Special Olympics team is back for its second year. The team has nearly doubled in size and now includes athletes from China Spring Intermediate, Middle, and High Schools. With this growth comes a new opportunity: the team will compete in bocce ball for the first time.
Athletes will kick off their season on October 10 at Midway High School in a local bocce ball competition. The team has been practicing hard to learn the strategies of this new event and are excited to showcase their skills.
“Special Olympics is about creating opportunities for students of all abilities to come together, compete, and have fun,” said Coach Bradley Settles. “We’re excited to see new faces on the team this year.”
The program’s growth reflects the strong support from families, staff, and the community. Executive Director of Special Programs, Dr. Nickolas Smith, said, “This team’s success shows the dedication of our athletes and the backing of our China Spring community. We’re proud of every student on the team, and we can’t wait to cheer them on this season.”
The community is invited to support the China Spring ISD Special Olympics team at its upcoming competitions. The first bocce ball event will take place on Thursday at Midway High School, followed by the area meet in Temple.
