China Spring ISD Board of Trustees: November Meeting Summary

The China Spring ISD School Board met on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 6:00 pm. The School Board highlighted November Faculty and Staff Award winners, received an update from the Health Science Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, watched a brief video from China Spring Middle School students, and celebrated China Spring ISD as the recipient of a $1 million grant from the Department of Justice.

Each month, faculty and staff are recognized for their outstanding contribution to the students at China Spring ISD. These educators are nominated by their campus principals and confirmed by the administration team. Educators are recognized at the School Board meeting and presented with a plaque. Students from China Spring Middle School had an opportunity to demonstrate what they are learning in school. Tena Elkins’ Film Production class is an engaging elective providing students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with video production. Students are responsible for creating and producing the morning announcements for the middle school. They gather facts and news, create a script, film the announcements, and edit the final production. For the School Board meeting, students were told to create a video addressing the following prompt, “What do you love about China Spring Middle School.” The video showcased volleyball games, the daily coffee cart, fun class projects, pep rallies, and football games.

Assistant High School Principal and CTE Coordinator, Kandace Beckham, provided an overview of the Health Science CTE program. The first cohort of students are in the middle of their clinical hours. Students visit Ridgecrest Retirement Center to apply the skills they are learning in the classroom. At this time, China Spring High School has 32 students who are eligible to take the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) industry-based certification.

Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Pitts, announced China Spring ISD as the recipient of a $1 million grant from the Department of Justice (DOJ). The grant is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s STOP School Violence Program, aimed at enhancing crisis intervention programs to prevent school violence. Funding will support initiatives focused on preventing violence and improving crisis response in the district. More information about the grant will be released soon.
